Fall Offerings

This fall I will be offering massage, yoga and dance in Metchosin, my beloved home community on the westshore of Vancouver Island. You can find me at Atman Clinic, or at the Lodge at Weir’s Beach where I will be working a new schedule as my daughter begins to attend preschool. This summer has filled me with vibrant sunlight and joy.  I look forward to connecting with you to support your health, and to assist you to connect to your inner vibrance and the joys in your life.

My new offering for this year is a somatic release technique called Focusing. Sessions can be woven into a bodywork session, or experienced on its own for a potent transformation of the emotional, mental and physical energies that can create blocks in our healing process.

Look for Children’s Yoga and a Hatha Flow class to begin in October. Times and location will be announced.

Wishing you a beautiful fall as we move into the season of nourishing soups, warm woollens, fires and the cleansing rains. Om shanti.

Winter Offerings

It has been an incredibly rich fall – I have taken time off from teaching yoga to widen the scope of my massage practice. Working at Zen Holistic Nutrition has been utterly nourishing. It has been so inspiring to work with Elissa Michaud, and Metchosin will miss her. She will be relocating her nutrition consulting business to Ahimsa Yoga Sooke, where she will expand her nutrition business to teaching yoga and offering Pranic Healing. Inner Warriors in Esquimalt is also closing its doors; Kim Maine (founder & owner) will continue to work on advocacy, fundraising and education for yoga therapy, as well as private sessions.

Theses changes bring new opportunities for my practice as I begin at Atman Massage Therapy. I am excited to share this space with a trio of amazing therapists – Kara Sorensen, Ginger Dowd are Registered Massage Therapists and Doris Seeton is a reflexologist. I will be there providing Cranial Sacral Therapy and Thai Massage on Thursday evenings, and Saturdays.

I will be offering Private Therapeutic Yoga Sessions and Children’s Yoga Classes at my home in Metchosin, as well as Tuesday or Thursday daytime massage bookings.

Click here to see my schedule for both teaching and massage.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your healing journey.

Namaste,

Sarah

Thai Massages Sessions available at the Fernwood Yoga Den

Thai Massage Therapy sessions are available during the day at the Den. If you are unavailable at this time, we can arrange for another location or time during the week. I can also travel to the comfort of your home!

What is a Thai Massage you ask?

An energetic massage traveling along 10 meridian pathways throughout the entire body and organ systems. From head to toe, techniques involve acupressure, joint mobility and assisted yoga poses. I use my fingers, hands, elbows, knees and feet to create varying levels of acupressure to your liking. Being fully clothed, the massage is performed on a mat on the floor, with bolsters and pillows for support in a variety of positions.

It is unique in that it works on multiple levels simultaneously – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects in a deep and therapeutic manner. It can be calming, soothing and gentle or vigorous and stimulating.

I have specializations in pre and post natal massage, hands free backwalking, and cupping and scraping techniques, available upon request.

Check it out and treat yourself to a holistic and energizing massage!

New Classes Available at Fernwood Yoga Den

Hi everyone!

I am excited to announce I will be teaching three new classes, starting March 13th at the new community yoga studio right in the heart of the village – Fernwood Yoga Den, 1311 Gladstone Ave. It will be great to see you there, and please spread the word to friends and family!

One of things that I feel really excited to support is that the wonderful owners of this studio – Rachel Sadvana and Lola Storry – are passionate about creating access for everyone to enjoy yoga. A portion of each class, or punch card that you buy goes towards Vision Programming – which is providing classes to people in Victoria who are otherwise unable to afford to participate. Examples of these classes are Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, Yoga for Mental Health and Pre- and Postnatal classes for single mums. This is what yoga is all about !!!!

My Classes:

Tuesdays 9:00am -10:15amTherapeutic Yoga                                                        This is a particularly effective practice for those recovering from, or living with, injury or illness. Therapeutic Yoga blends restorative yoga (supported postures), gentle yoga, breathwork, hands-on healing, and guided meditation techniques combined in such a way that it is an excellent choice for those who need something gentle yet effective for bringing the body into balance and reducing stress.

Thursdays 12 noon – 1:15pm – Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa cultivates awareness through connecting flowing movement in the body with conscious breathing. There is an active portion of this class designed to build heat and stimulate blood flow to the muscles, tissues and organs followed by cooling poses to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. This combination leaves you feeling strengthening, energized, refreshed and peaceful. Students gain strength and flexibility at their own pace, with safety and alignment a key focus.

Saturdays 12:15 – 1:30pm Yin Yang Class                                                                  This class draws upon the doctrine of the five elements and the principle of yin and yang, and energy meridian lines used in Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Designed to offer the balancing effects of yin (passive) and yang (active) styles of yoga.  This class draws upon the more internal, quiet and longer held postures, balanced with the more active, moving and dynamic or heat producing yoga postures to create a holistic body experience.
